TVT – Episode 11 | Iranian Theatre Abroad and Remembering Parviz Fannizadeh

TVT · TAMASHA KHANEH

In Episode 11 of TVT, we discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Iranian theatre abroad—from finding audiences and managing production costs to sponsorship and connecting with the wider cultural community—remember Parviz Fannizadeh, and introduce three upcoming works from Bamdad Publishing.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Episode 11 of TVT, presented in Persian, explores Iranian theatre outside Iran and the opportunities and challenges that theatre artists and companies may encounter while working abroad.

How can a Persian-language theatre company build an audience and sustain its work outside Iran? How do the size of the Persian-speaking community, venue and production costs, marketing, ticket sales, sponsorship, and the challenge of building a professional team affect the ability to produce and present theatre?

Another important question is how artists engage with the cultural and artistic environment of their host country. How can theatre makers maintain the language and cultural identity of their work while also connecting with broader audiences and non-Iranian artists? Can translation, multilingual productions, and collaboration with local arts organizations create new possibilities for Iranian theatre abroad?

In our “Remembering Artists” segment, we remember Parviz Fannizadeh, an actor whose work across Iranian theatre, cinema, and television included a number of memorable roles and characters. We take a brief look at his artistic career and approach to acting.

Our book segment introduces three upcoming works from Bamdad Publishing, offering a preview of new titles preparing to reach readers.

From your perspective, what is the greatest challenge facing Iranian theatre artists and companies working outside Iran?
